Health inspections at two Roscommon disability centres have highlighted issues with fire safety and risk management.
The centres, both part of the Brothers of Charity Services, were subject to short notice inspections in October of last year.
Evergreen Services in Athlone provides a respite service for up to five adults, with intellectual disabilities or autism.
Inspectors found that while the centre was found to be compliant and substantially compliant in the majority of categories, it was found to be 'non-compliant' in the area of fire safety.
While Fire safety systems in the centre were satisfactory, a delay in the completion of outstanding safety works resulted in the service receiving the negative result.
Structural works have now commenced on site, with the centre due to be fully compliant by the end of January.
Meanwhile, Honeysuckle Services in Roscommon provides full-time residential care and support for up to two adults with a disability.
The centre was found to be compliant in all areas bar risk management procedures.
While inspectors acknowledged that there were systems in place to manage and mitigate risk in the centre, a review of risk assessment procedures is required.
Honeysuckle Services have now reviewed the risk assessment process and have implemented a formal risk assessment strategy with further staff training planned.
