The Green Councillor says that rail infrastructure will be significantly easier to build on former tracks than developing new routes.

A number of old railway lines have been turned into greenways in recent years.

The completed greenway will connect Boyle to Carrick-on-Shannon.

Locals have raised concerns over privacy, anti-social behaviour and land segregation along the route.

The greenway intends to make use of the disused railway line as the potential route.

The call follows an incident involving a woman and man last week on the popular amenity.

Gardai are investigating the incident.

Roscommon received the most funding followed by Leitrim and Longford.
