The funeral of an Athlone teenager who died in a swimming tragedy is taking place today.
Glowing tributes have been paid to Martin Greene following his death.
The 15-year-old was swimming off Carnakilla Point, near Glasson, outside Athlone, last Saturday evening when he got into difficulty.
Emergency services were called and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
He lived in Brawny Close in Athlone, and his mother, Yvonne, said her heart is broken.
The football club he played for, St Francis FC in Athlone, said they're utterly devastated.
They said he was a brilliant member of last season's Under-15 team, for which he was captain.
His funeral Mass is taking place this morning in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Coosan on Thursday at 11 o'clock, followed by burial afterwards in Coosan Cemetery.
His family wants those attending the funeral to wear the colour red to symbolise Martin's love of Liverpool FC.
