Fundraiser is underway to keep Elphin SOS in operation

The charity provides free counselling to adults affected by suicide, and promotes overall mental health.

A fundraising drive is underway in Roscommon to keep a local suicide charity in operation.

Elphin SOS (Support to Overcome Suicide) was founded in 2005 following a cluster of suicides in the wider Elphin area.

The service has been running since providing free counselling to adults affected by suicide, and promoting the overall mental health and well-being of the wider community.

It costs around €1,000 per month to keep the service running and this is normally done though fund-raising.

An online raffle has now been organised with a PlayStation 5 and 2 controllers as first prize.

People can go online to elphinsos.link to buy tickets, or they can go to an existing GoFundMe page if they would like just to donate.

Local councillor Valerie Byrne says the scheme provides some very important help for people in the area:
