Five people have appeared in court charged in connection with an alleged hit and run in a Longford car park last year.

The four men and one woman, who are part of an extended family, were brought before Longford District court this morning.

All five accused were arrested this morning as part of garda investigations into an alleged hit and run incident which occurred at the Annally Car Park on April 30th.

40-year-old Joe Lawrence, with an address of 17 Camlin Meadows, Farneyhoogan, Longford, is charged with intentionally or recklessly engaging in conduct which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another.

He was also charged with dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to three individuals as well as failing to remain at the scene of an incident.

25-year-old Patrick Lawrence of 39, Great Water Street, Longford, was charged with the same offences.

30-year-old Daniel Lawrence of 13, Ardagh Lodge, Prospect Woods, Longford, was charged with violent disorder as well as producing a hatchet during an incident.

25-year-old David Lawrence, with an address 8, Blacklion estate, Maynooth, was also charged with violent disorder and producing a hammer in the course of an incident.

27-year-old Rebecca Lawrence of 39 Great Water Street was charged with knowing or believing someone had committed an offence of endangerment and impeding an apprehension.

None of the accused gave any reply to the charges and all were granted bail under strict conditions including staying off social media and not engaging with any of the injure parties or witnesses.

Patrick and Joe Lawrence were  also ordered not to drive any vehicle until the conclusion of court proceedings.

Judge John Brennan adjourned the case until September 22nd when all five are due back in court.
