Roscommon-Galway Fianna Fáil TD, Martin Daly, is backing Jim Gavin to get his party's nomination for the presidency.
The former Dublin football manager also has the support of Taoiseach Micheál Martin and several cabinet ministers.
MEP Billy Kelleher is also seeking a nomination from Fianna Fáil in the race to the Áras.
