Engineer says no decision made yet on closing roads near proposed N61 by-pass

The preferred route option was published last week.

There is no decision as yet on whether to close off sections of the N61 Ballymurray to Knockcroghery road as part of a new bypass.

The Preferred Route Corridor has been finalised and the project will now progress to the design stage; if approved by the TII.

Consultants will be engaging with landowners during the course of the next year with a more detailed route made public in early 2023.

There had been some speculation that the N61 would end beyond Ballymurray railway crossing and similarily the road to Kilteevan at Curry gates would become a cul de sac.

Senior Engineer Alan Mulryan says while this option will be looked at, reduced traffic on those roads will have to be considered:
