Emergency Department waiting times doubled at local hospital last year

New figures reveal the average patient waiting time at Sligo A&E has risen by over 105%.

The numbers released by the HSE to Sinn Fein show the average waiting time is almost 16 hours while those aged over 75 are facing more than an 18 hour wait on average.

That's 10 hours longer than in 2019.

Meanwhile, the data showed that the average patient was left waiting up to 9 hours in Portiuncula Hospital in December 2022.

However this represents no change on 2019 waiting times at the Ballinasloe facility.
