Councillors in the Boyle Electoral Area of Roscommon have given their approval to a public realm plan for three areas in Boyle town.

The plans approved include enhancements to Shop street and Bridge Street and for changes to the car park opposite the post office.

However, on the recommendation of the Chief Executive, plans for the Crescent area, which had generated considerable controversy were excluded from the overall scheme.

Businesses and traders have concerns on a number of grounds, including the removal of car parking spaces which they say would have negatively impacted on footfall.

Chief Executive Eugene Cummins has suggested that given the number of submissions on this area, this section be re-examined in 2021, with further public consultation.

Councillors have agreed to progress the matter with full discussions ahead of a Part 8 being brought forward.
