Councillor hopes new unit at Sacred Heart will address long-standing issues

The HSE has finally applied for planning permission, several years after the project was first mooted.

It's hoped the development of a new 50-bed unit at the Sacred Heart Community Nursing Unit in Roscommon will help tackle historical issues with the service.

Planning permission has been submitted to Roscommon County council for the development, with a decision due in June.

Also included in the development are refurbishments for existing units and parking at the site, with a further 68 space car park to be constructed, including 15 bicycle spaces.

Previous HIQA inspections at the HSE run facility have highlighted issues with the buildings, which are in some cases are over 100 years old.

Local councillor Tony Ward says the new construction, if approved, will make a major difference to both residents and staff:
