Conviction rates for using mobile phones while driving at all time low

Just one in four people brought to court under the charge are being convicted.

Conviction rates for using a mobile phone while driving are as low as 14 percent in some parts of the country.

New data seen by the Irish Times shows between 2018 and 2020, 25 percent of people who were brought to court nationally were convicted.

When broken down by county, conviction rates were as low as 14 percent in Sligo, and as high as 36 percent in Wicklow.

The highest number of prosecutions outside the main cities was in Kildare, which had a conviction rate of 19 percent.
