The EPA is investigating the issue.

Immediate and decisive action must be taken to address a serious smell affecting the residents of a North Roscommon Town.

That's the view of local Councillor Michael Mulligan who says that people in Ballaghaderreen are furious after the smell began affecting the town again last month.

The Environmental Protection Agency have been notified and are currently investigating the cause of the issue.

Last year, local dairy plant Aurivo was found to be in breach of three Industrial Emissions conditions, with an EPA investigation recording significant odours emanating from the dairy Ingredients facility

Councillor Mulligan says the fumes are a hazard to both people and local businesses in Ballaghaderreen:

'The big thing about this is that we have had a number of meeting about this. We were probably promised the sun, moon and the stars that it was going to be  rectified and there is millions being spent on work out there but this has not been rectified. Not by a long shot and people are very angry. People have come to me morning, noon and night. People are hanging out their clothes and then they have to bring them in again. It is disgraceful what is going on when you see the profits they are making. They couldn't care less about the towns they are making the money in.'
