The Selton Hill Ambush was one of the most significant events in the war of Independence in Leitrim and had the largest loss of life on the IRA side in the county during the war.

Events to mark the centenary of the Selton Hill ambush continue in Leitrim today.

Six IRA officers of the Leitrim Brigade were killed, when the local Flying Column was ambushed by
members of the RIC Auxiliary Division at Selton Hill on March 11th 1921.

The local heritage group, the Centenary Committee and Leitrim County Council have all worked on the
restoration of the monument at Selton hill.

A book on the ambush has been written by local historian Padraig Leydon, which will be launched online today at 2pm, with a documentary remembering the event
to also be streamed live this evening at 7pm.

All will be streamed live on a new website created for the commemoration: www.seltonhill.com

Padraig Leyden outlines some of the interesting new information that has come to light in his research:
