The brother of Colm Horkan has thanked both the Gardai and public for their support over the last three years.
Dermot Horkan says the family take great solace from the many letters and cards sent to them from people around the country.
Stephen Silver was handed a life sentence yesterday for the capital murder of the Detective Garda in Castlerea in June 2020.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Dermot paid special tribute to Colm's colleagues who continued to carry out their roles on the night of the shooting.
'I was there that night and I witnessed his colleagues there broken and crying.
Having to preserve a scene and start into their job and carry on, you know?
This was their brother as well, I just can't thank people enough on behalf of our family, the Gards, the legal team, everyone has just been so good.'
