Carbon tax scheme unfair to rural areas if not changed according to local TD

The Independent deputy says the rural/city divide will be further stretched should changes not be made to the scheme.

Independent TD Denis Naughten says changes need to be made to the planned rollout of the carbon tax scheme if it's to be fair to rural dwellers.

The Roscommon Galway TD says that under present plans people who live in rural areas will be paying up to four times as much carbon tax in 2030 as opposed to those living in Dublin.

He says that Ireland needs to come up with more tailor-made solutions to climate change instead of copying what has been adopted in other EU countries.
