Part 8 planning permission is due to be lodged in the coming weeks for the expansion into lands adjacent to the Park.

A major extension of the Albert Reynolds Peace Park in Longford Town must contain athletics infrastructure to support local runners. That's the call from Brendan Doyle, who runs a popular local running club with his wife Madeline. Part 8 planning permission is due to be lodged in the coming weeks for the expansion into lands adjacent to the Park. The plans would see the upgrade and extension of the Astroturf pitch in the Mall to full FAI competition guidelines and expanded parking facilities.

Councillors will discuss the move at an upcoming meeting of Longford County Council, with construction to begin afterwards if approved. Brendan told Shannonside News that Longford Town and the surrounding county has a huge number of people involved running. He has been calling for modern athletics infrastructure in the town over the last 10 years:
