Journey times need to be shortened and frequency increased.

Midlands Northwest MEP Chris McManus is calling on the government to prioritise the delivery of a dual railway track from Galway to Athlone.

The MEP says while he was glad to see funding for Oranmore reaffirmed under the National Development Plan last week, the investment needs to be replicated down the line as well.

Chris McManus says it's very important that journey times from stations like Woodlawn, Ballinasloe are shortened and train frequency is increased.

The MEP says projects like the track between Galway and Athlone are a perfect example of sustainable transport schemes.
