The magazine is the first of its kind.

A new audio magazine for children with visual impairments will be launched in Leitrim next month.

Stephen Keane from News Mag Media says the publication uses a digital pen to play recordings of the pre-loaded text.

The local company began work on the project over two years ago in consultation with the National Council for the Blind and the Dyslexic Association of Ireland

The monthly magazine which will be published in Carrick-on-Shannon will go on sale in July with libraries in Leitrim, Carlow and Monaghan stocking each issue.

Speaking to Shannonside FM Stephen says the Fact Factory magazine is the first of kind.

''We just wanted to create an accessible magazine that would allow every kind of need or reader to access it. So it's a world first and something we're very proud of, but hopefully, it's something that people will see why we went about trying to create it because it is really fulfilling a lot of needs that weren't being filled before.''
