A new report has recommended a shake up to local government across the country.
The report of the Local Democracy Taskforce is before Cabinet Ministers this morning.
It recommends setting up in the region of 100 municipal councils across the country.
Those councils will sit across the existing municipal district boundaries but will have greater budgets and powers to make decisions in their local areas.
The municipal councils will represent the entirety of an area, differing them from the town councils which were abolished in the past.
