According to the Athlone mother, she needs answers as a matter of urgency.

An Athlone mother has yet to be told when a special education class will open for her son, two months into the academic year.

In July, following a lack of autism places locally, the Longford/Westmeath ETB announced a new class for Athlone Community College.

Michelle Dowling's son Gareth was granted a place however no timeframe has yet been given as to when the places will become available.

While the Department of Education will fund home tuition in the interim, Michelle is struggling to find a teacher.

She calling for an opening date to be confirmed for the class.

I just need to know, when is the unit open? when will the autism class open in Athlone?

We can't keep waiting, I have no set date.

I need to know has the school been in touch with the NCSE and have they given them a date for the opening.

I don't even know what I need for Gareth to bring to school.
