Children with autism already face significant costs for many treatments not currently provided under the public system according to Senator Carrigy

She says there are currently 18 children in the Monksland area who are in need of special class spaces that do not currently exist.

Ireland's National Autism Charity - AsIAm - is urging people to create a society where everyone is equal.

Some of the events taking place are inclusive GAA, art, music, and a pet farm.

The opening of the class had faced a number of delays with some children having to accept places elsewhere or be home-schooled since September.

Last year, the St Patrick's Day Parade in Longford Town had a section with no music or sirens so that families with kids, particularly with Autism, would be able to watch in a comfortable and safe area.
