Fianna Fáil councillor Marty McDermott says the closure of the iconic building was a further blow for Roscommon.

The Roscommon branch will join 95 per cent of the country's 900 plus post offices and become a contractor-run post office.

The company said staff will be offered a number of options including taking up employment with the new Postmaster or deployment elsewhere in the An Post network.

You have until December 21st to post cards and parcels to the rest of Ireland.

A new digital stamp has also been introduced.

An Post have waived the normal fees associated with these donations so the full proceeds will go to the charities.

Post has been returned after lengthy delays to residents stating that "Athlone, Co.Westmeath" should be used instead.
