A Roscommon native is behind new research into chronic wounds

A Roscommon native who is the lead for Research and Innovation in Wounds, at NUI Galway has announced new research into chronic wounds.

The NUI Galway study will see the development of a novel drug delivery system for cannabinoids for more effective treatment of wound pain and improved wound healing.

Chronic wounds affect up to 4% of people over 65, with venous leg ulcers being the most prevalent of these, accounting for approximately 70% of all ulcers of the lower limbs.

Chronic wounds are associated with reduced quality of life and affect individuals physically and psychologically.

Professor Georgina Gethin who is a Roscommon Town native told the Joe Finnegan Show that she wants this research to help manage chronic wound pain..
