The Department of Justice has confirmed 8 Ukrainian refugees living in Athlone could be moved from State-supported accommodation by November. They were informed this week that they may no longer be accommodated at two centres in county Westmeath. An agreement will see the Government phasing out accomodation that has been provided to people from Ukraine since 2022. It is being introduced on a phased basis and commenced at the end of last month.
It's been confirmed Ukrainians staying at two county Westmeath centres were told their accommodation would cease in October. There are 8 currently being accommodated at Shines Guesthouse in Athlone, and 6 in Alpaca My Bags in Mullingar. They have been told they have until October 31st. Some existing centres will close and be returned to private use.
Those affected are being provided with information and supports to help them with future accommodation options. They have the option of applying for continued accommodation at a State-supported centre or sourcing their own accommodation.
