345 new Covid cases as Minister warns restrictions could last into the winter

The Seanad is discussing extending Covid powers until November

There has been a further 345 Covid-19 cases. 127 covid patients are in hospital. 44 of which are in ICU.

Some level of public health restrictions may be needed into the winter, according to Minister Stephen Donnelly.

The Seanad has been debating an extension of the government's emergency powers until the 9th of November.

At the same time Ministers will look to announce an unwinding of restrictions on hospitality, live events and travel on Friday.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says the government still needs the power to re-introduce restrictions for a few more months:
