Over three hundred people in the Shannonside region are currently waiting for their passport applications to be processed.
According to the Minister for Foreign affairs, there are approximately 40,000 Passport Online applications in the system and there are currently approximately 5,900 paper based applications in the system.
150 applications are currently waiting to be processed by people with addresses in Roscommon, and one hundred each from Leitrim and Longford.
According to Simon Coveney, the Passport Service is confident that any backlog will be cleared quickly and they claim that when the Passport Service resumed operations in June 2020, the backlog was cleared in four weeks.
They claim a similar backlog last December was cleared within three weeks.
