132 local people have taken their own lives over past decade

A total of 132 people in the Shannonside region have died by suicide in the past 10 years.

Over three quarters were male.

These new figures have been released by the Central Statistics Office.

They show 132 people died by suicide in the Shannonside region in the space of 10 years - between 2016 and 2025.

Of those, the vast majority - over 78 per cent - were male, with 103 males and 29 females.

In Roscommon, there were 77 suicides - involving 56 males and 21 females.

In Longford, there were a total of 30 - 26 males and four females.

There were a total of 25 in Leitrim - 21 males and four females.
