LISTEN: Local GOAL volunteer 'shocked' over funding cuts to international aid

A local GOAL volunteer has expressed his shock following the agency's announcement that more than 900 of its staff are at risk of losing their jobs.
The Irish humanitarian response agency recently confirmed that its staff, which includes 28 employees in Ireland, may be affected by layoffs due to funding cuts from the US and a number of countries in Europe.

It comes as US President Donald Trump declared he intends to shut down US-AID permanently, an aid agency that provided over 50% of GOAL's income in 2023.
GOAL currently operates across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Ukraine.
Speaking over the weekend, Labour foreign affairs spokesperson Duncan Smith stressed that Europe's re-armament cannot come at the expense of international aid.
