The number of motorists caught speeding in Roscommon, Longford and Mayo almost trebled last year.
The Irish Independent reports the number of motorists caught driving over the speed limit around the country was almost 169,000 - a 23 per cent increase on the previous year.
There was a decrease in the enforcement of drink and drug-driving laws, with a three per cent reduction overall in roadside checkpoints and breath tests.
But An Garda Síochána claims there was an increase of five per cent in drink-driving detections and a 14 per cent in drug detections last year, compared to 2024.
