A ban on the breed was announced last year after a number of attacks - however existing owners could apply to their local authority to keep their pets if they had been neutered.

Longford is the only county locally where a XL Bully dog has been surrendered to the local authority.
A ban on the breed was announced last year after a number of attacks - however existing owners could apply to their local authority to keep their pets if they had been neutered.
24 certificates of exemption had been granted to local XL Bully owners as of the deadline in February.
Roscommon had the highest amount of applications locally, with 12 certs issued out of 12 applications.

That's followed by Leitrim, where all eight applications received by the County Dog Warden were approved.
Four applications were granted in Longford, with eight applications received by the February deadline.
Following a parliamentary question by Dublin TD Maeve O'Connell, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Dara Calleary stated that nearly 50 XL Bullys were surrendered to city and county councils after the ban.
Longford had the only local incidence, with one XL bully surrendered to Longford County Council earlier this year.
