Work has begun on the installation of traffic lights at a busy junction on the outskirts of Longford Town.
The mini roundabout on the Battery Road at the Demesne and Lisbrack road will be replaced by a traffic light junction as part of the ongoing works on the road.
The area has seen increased residential development over the last number of years according to Councillor Peggy Nolan who lives nearby.
The Fine Gael Councillor says this has led to safety concerns on the mini roundabout due to higher levels of traffic.
Councillor Nolan says people have been asking for more safety measures at this junction for years:
The lights will be turned on after the completion of the long term Battery road works, with the council stating those works will wrap up within weeks.
Councillor Nolan says the entire route will be safer for motorists and pedestrians following the traffic light installation and the completion of the works.
