Westmeath councillor criticises county's omission from septic tank scheme

The Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien announced last November that grants available for Septic Tanks will be increased to €12,000 from €5,000.

A Westmeath councillor has criticised the Department of Housing's omission of the entire County in the new septic tank grant scheme.

Cllr Paul Hogan described the Government's approach as discriminatory to rural people from Westmeath who are seeking to upgrade their septic tank. The Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien announced last November that grants available for Septic Tanks will be increased to €12,000 from €5,000. Meanwhile, the grants have been welcomed across Leitrim where locals face ongoing difficulty building once off housing.
