A grandfather from Virginia in County Cavan is celebrating his 83rd birthday by cycling the length of the National Famine Way. Gregory O'Reilly took off this morning from the National Famine Museum in Strokestown for his latest charity cycle in aid of the 'Help Our Homeless' charity. He'll traverse the 165 kilometre distance on his trusty 1960 Raleigh bicycle and hopes to hit Dublin by Friday. The Cavan man is no stranger to two-wheeled adventure.
He previously cycled the full length of the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway to raise funds for a new minibus for the Holy Family Special School in Cootehill, which his grandson attends. Gregory explains the motivation behind his mammoth cycle:
