The Vatican has no say in how the group which owns the land to the National Maternity Hospital is operated.
That's according to St Vincent's Hospital group, who say they're a secular organisation.
The Minister for Health says negotiating the purchase of the land the hospital will be built on, would've left women waiting for essential services.
