Two water supplies in the Shannonside region have an elevated level of a chemical linked to cancer. They are the North East Regional in Co. Roscommon and the Longford Central supply. They were among 45 supplies around the country on the Environmental Protection Agency's remedial action list at the end of 2024.
The report found that there was a THM failure in the water supplies. Whilst the chemical is linked to cancer, according to the HSE more scientific research is needed to fully understand any potential health effects in humans.
