Two people have been arrested following a drugs seizure in County Longford.
Over €50,000 worth of cannabis was discovered following a search operation conducted as part of Operation Tara during a search of a vehicle in the Newtownforbes area on Thursday afternoon.
The occupants of the car, a man and a woman in their 30s, were arrested.
Both are currently detained at Longford Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 and they can be held for up to seven days. Investigations are ongoing.
Separately, Gardai in Longford also seized over 400 illegal fireworks and counterfeit tobacco products including, 7,500 cigarettes along with an assortment Pouches, Cigars & Chewing Tobacco following a search of a business premises in Longford town earlier this week. Investigating Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.
