Roscommon senator wants increase in Telephone Support Allowance

A Roscommon Senator has called for the Telephone Support Allowance to be increased.

The allowance is an extra €2.50 per week paid to people on certain social welfare payments.

Fine Gael Senator Gareth Scahill called for the payment to be increased to at least €10 per week in the Seanad yesterday.

He says phone and broadband lines prevent loneliness.
