A Carrigallen woman who devoted her life to the poor of New Orleans was mentioned by the Taoiseach at the US Capitol this week.

'Margaret of New Orleans' as she was known emigrated to the US with her parents at the age of five.

She was born in Tully, Carrigallen in 1813, where a replica cottage was constructed in 2008.
