Top heavy bureaucracy was a major barrier to helping families around Lough Funshinagh according to the Tánaiste. Speaking in Roscommon over the weekend, Simon Harris stated that if laws are stopping solutions to serious problems, then changing legislation must be considered. When asked how future problems similar to the Lough Funshinagh saga would be handled, the Tánaiste stated that being told there was no effective solution was not acceptable. Simon Harris says it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to examine every possible solution and if legislation changes are needed, then its the responsibility of TDs to progress that. The Tánaiste says that what happened around the South Roscommon turlough can not be allowed happen again:
