Tánaiste Simon Harris says Longford is becoming a 'hub' of culture and tourism.
It follows the sod turning ceremony at the Connolly Barracks in Longford Town last week, which will see the transformation of the former army barracks into a new museum and cultural space.
Work on the €7 million project will get underway later this summer.
