Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds has come under scrutiny following the release of State papers on the Brendan Smyth extradition affair.
The documents show the Attorney General believed the Longford-Westmeath TD gave an inaccurate account of events to the Dáil during the controversy.
Reynolds had portrayed the delay in Smyth's extradition as unavoidable, a version the Attorney General privately disputed.
The papers suggest key legal facts were omitted, shaping a narrative that downplayed government responsibility.
The handling of the case would later trigger the collapse of Reynolds' coalition government in 1994.
