A stark warning has been issued over the lack of Gardaí assigned to the local region. Figures published in the latest allocation from Templemore show the north west region, which includes Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon has yet again, received the lowest number of new officers.
Of the 154 attested as members on Friday, only 21 have been stationed locally. Ballaghaderreen-based councillor Micheál Frain says greater resources are needed:
