'South Longford wind farm will severely damage eco-tourism plans'

The No to Derryadd Wind Farm Group has been highlighting their concerns following the lodging of planning permission for the infrastructure with An Bord Pleanála this week.

A local action group believes plans for 22 wind turbines near Lanesboro in Longford will severely damage any eco-tourism plans for the area.

The No to Derryadd Wind Farm Group has been highlighting their concerns following the lodging of planning permission for the infrastructure with An Bord Pleanála this week.

Bord na Móna Powergen Limited are seeking to construct 22 wind turbines across 34 townlands in the area.

The turbine's would have a blade tip height of 190 metres, with access tracks, hard stands and substations also included in plans.

Bord na Móna Powergen are also proposing to over 7.5km of amenity access tracks from wind farm sites onto the Royal Canal Greenway, Corlea Trackway and the Midlands Trail Network.
