Six people were rescued from a cruiser which was blown onto the bank of a river on Sunday by Civil Defence in Ballinasloe.

The alarm was raised at 4pm by the Irish coast guard after the vessel suffering engine failure near Moycarn Marina.

Three members of the Civil Defence responded and the cruiser was subsequently towed to safety with no injuries reported.
