Committees across the Shannonside region have been busy preparing for the St. Patrick's Day celebrations tomorrow. Large crowds are turning across towns and villages to mark one of the biggest occasions of the year. Communities are adding finishing touches to their floats, with over a hundred set to drive through the streets of Longford, Roscommon, and Leitrim tomorrow. Longford Town's St Patrick's Day parade takes place at 1pm, beginning at Connolly Barracks. In Lanesboro and Ballyleague, celebrations begin with St Patrick’s Day Mass at 11am in Lanesboro Church, featuring traditional musicians, the parish choir and champion Irish dancers, with the parade itself beginning at 2:30pm. Meanwhile in Ballymahon, the parade begins at 4pm with the theme "Our Story," highlighting local schools, GAA clubs and community organisations, with more than 40 floats expected.
In Co. Roscommon, Athleague hosts its first ever St Patrick’s Day parade at 1pm, while in Ballaghaderreen, the parade begins at 2:30pm. In Aughavas, the parade begins at 12:30pm, followed by family entertainment and live music. Later in the afternoon, parades take place in Ballinamore, Drumshanbo and Mohill at 4pm, with entertainment and community celebrations planned throughout the day. While Carrick-on-Shannon hosts its parade at 1pm, celebrating the town’s success as Ireland’s Tidiest Town, and it will also be broadcast by RTÉ.
