Almost 5,000 homes and businesses in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon are still without power.

The Dáil has today heard calls for Shannonside GPs and vulnerable people to be given generators - to avoid a repeat of the current electricity crisis.

Almost 5,000 homes and businesses in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon are still without power.

Tomorrow will mark two weeks since Storm Eowyn swept across the country.

Speaking in the Dail for the first time, Roscommon-Galway TD Martin Daly said the HSE should ensure GPs have access to generators in future.

His Fianna Fáil colleague, Sligo-Leitrim TD Eamon Scanlon, also called for more access to generators.
