Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Ballaghadereen. The incident occurred at around 1am yesterday morning on Barrack Street. Gardaí say a man in his 30s was brought to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he remains in a critical condition. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established in Castlerea Garda Station.
Anyone who was in the vicinity of Barrack Street between 12:45am and 1:15am on the 1st January and who may have video footage are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí. Former local councillor Michael Scally is encouraging anyone with information to come forward:
