Sentence hearing for Longford arson case to begin today

He pleaded guilty to arson last October.

The sentencing hearing of a man who set fire to a building in Longford town, which allegedly caused over 3 million euro in damage, will get under way this afternoon.

He pleaded guilty to arson last October.

This fire in Longford town in July 2024 led to the temporary closure of several local businesses.

Chinese national, Guo Zhong Chen, of Belvedere Terrace, Mullingar, was charged with starting the fire at the Oyama Sushi Restaurant at Grafton Court.

He pleaded guilty to one count of arson at Longford Circuit Court last October.

He's currently in prison ahead of sentencing.

The sentencing hearing is due to get under way this afternoon and Chen is due to appear in person in court.
