A Longford senator says he's 'hugely disappointed' with a local bishop over the use of school sports facilities by the public. Senator Joe Flaherty told the Seanad that Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, Paul Connell, recently issued a 'diktat' to schools.
According to Senator Flaherty, they're not allowed to make their grounds available to community groups to use outside of school hours. The Fianna Fáil senator says this might affect sports capital grants for clubs and organisations:
