A local senator is insisting that a new surgical hub for the North-West should be located at Sligo University Hospital.
It comes as an ongoing dispute has been taking place over whether it should be developed at Sligo or Letterkenny University Hospital.
Sligo-Leitrim politicians have been arguing that locating the hub in Donegal would come at the expense of patients in Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan, South Donegal and parts of Roscommon, who would have to make considerably long journeys to access surgical care.
While Labour party senator Nessa Cosgrove says this is yet another example of the neglect of health services for the region.
